Hi Chell Welcome to NELS. Take a look at the videos on this site. There is also a wealth of information in the downloads section. Enjoy.

Thank you Auto Westune
I will keep on reading little bits and watching video clips.Come the end of the week i should have my lil pick set to practice on my training locks lol.
I do have another question about mortice locks and i have seen a 2 in 1 picky thingy with wheels on it but do i need a 5 and 7 Gauge one Rolling Eyes cuz its going to take me alittle while to save up for them but cheaper to buy the two gauge's together and longer for the curtained ones.
WOW i sound like an expert lol 5 and 7 gauge and curtains they are called.
Your advice would be very welcome.

5 or 7 gauge refers to the diameter of the key that fits the lock. So the size that you require depends on which lock you will be practicing on. If you measure the diameter of the key I can let you know which gauge it is.
If you look in the homebrew section you will find some that were made by our members for next to nothing.

Thank you for your replys. My dad has a grinder so i'd expect him to make them for me.
Is there a video to show me how to take a yale lock (rim cylinder) apart as i bought one for £8 and picked it 5-6 times now but im just poking about without any sense of touch and i need to get the feel or touch by taking the pins out and adding them if i put them nasty pins in (odd shaped pins) can i buy pins separately as it would work out cheaper for me.
Thank you for your help and look forward to any replys.
Kind Regards.
Chell

Chell, If it was easy everybody and his granny would be setting up as a Locksmith. You need to ask if any of our members are prepared to supply a see through practice lock to give you a better idea of how the various locks work. You could also try ebay. Keep practicing, it will come.

Thank you PeeJay
That was helpful though my lock is now in bits and the pins springs are all in a lil plastic bag but watching that video ;o) all i have to do is put the key in in order to get the pins in the right order ;o) im gonna buy a lil mini clamp for my desk cuz i need one and where can i buy them tweezers in the video from cuz they are alot better then the ones in my makeup bag.
Thank you for your help.
Oh it only had 5 pins and none of them funny shaped ones but then it did come from wilkinsons.
KK thanx.

The tweezers for pins are a little expensive...What I do is get a cheapo set off ebay and then squeeze them in a vice with a pin between them...It will form a small rounded indent in the tweezers that will hold the pins better.
And yes using the key in the plug will let you find the right combo...Then again just mix the pins up for a different feel. Also pick the lock clockwise then anticlockwise and also put your wrench top then bottom of the keyway cos that will give you 4 different feels to pick it
